4 SIR WILLIAM BORLASE’S GRAMMAR SCHOOL

The original school house was built in 1624 by Sir William Borlase.  Mr Edward Riley funded the erection of a workshop and also the Chapel.  Edward Riley died just before the Chapel was opened and his widow Emma Riley gave the centre window in the Chapel under which is a brass tablet with this inscription ‘This window was given by Emma Riley in memory of her husband Edward Riley, F.I.C., for many years a Governor of Borlase School, who died 12 September, 1914’
